What Diaper Rash is and How You Can Treat It
Diaper rash is easy to see. It's a red rash on your child's bottom. The redness may be appear with blisters or pimples if your baby has bad diaper rash. It will appear on the child�s bottomand genitals.
Why Does My Baby Have Diaper Rash?: All babies will usually get diaper rash at one point or another. If your baby has diaper rash, it is not a sign of neglect on your part. It's normal for a baby to get diaper rash. The main causes of diaper rash are:
-sensitivity to stool
-sensitivity to particular brands of diapers or wipes
-sensitivity to laundry detergent used to wash cloth diapers
-dirty diaper left on too long
-diapers that are put on too tight and rub the skin
-bacterial or fungal infection
Treatment: When you treat diaper rash, you must keep the affected area cool and dry. You can do so by immediately changing soiled diapers. As soon as you have wiped the area clean, allow it to air dry before putting on any ointment. Other ways to treat diaper rash include:
-pat or blot the affected area when you change the diaper and make sure you get it clean
-use a diaper rash cream to protect the skin
-soak baby's bum in warm soapy water
Preventing Diaper Rash: In an effort to prevent your baby from getting diaper rash often, you can:
-change soiled diapers the instant they become soiled
-don't put the next diaper on until the skin is fully dry
-buy a different brand of diapers
-frequently use a diaper rash cream to prevent the skin from becoming irritated
-do not put the diapers on too tight
-change brands of detergent used to wash cloth diapers
